C The World Thornbury is one of three C The World branches in the south-west region, which are all overseen by powerhouse director Carolyn Park. Since relocating from Easter Compton in 2018, the shop has seen a dramatic increase in customers.
Aside from its new high street premises, it’s easy to see why the store draws in plenty of business with its eye-catching themed window displays tailored to special events, on-site cinema, and quirky touches such as a table topped with a map of the world.
There’s something for the kids too, with the shop’s resident Gromit statue – Grom Voyage – acting as a big draw for children, in addition to a suitcase full of soft toys, travel books and other child-friendly items.
The team’s driving force is its belief in always going the extra mile, with recent examples including repatriating a client who broke their hip in Egypt and arranging a specialist guide for a client with visual impairment.
They also arranged for a private rooftop celebration in Venice for a client’s 40th birthday, complete with champagne and canapes. Not to mention Carolyn’s 24-hour “bat phone” service, which means clients are taken care of around the clock.
Customers have been spoilt over the past year with an array of events held by the agency both at its shop and at venues further afield including an afternoon tea at Thornbury Castle and sponsored competitions at a prestigious local golf club.
There is also a keen commitment to operating sustainably at this store, with a paperless back-office system and specialised recycling boxes for a variety of items. The team collects milk from a farm vending machine in refillable bottles on the way into the office, while a plot of land at the back of the store has been transformed into a vegetable plot so staff can dig up their own jacket potatoes for lunch.
