TTG Top 50 Travel Agencies

Cumbria Travel, Workington

Cumbria Travel, Workington
One of TTG’s Top 50 Travel Agencies 2020

The only travel agency in the popular Dunmail Park shopping centre, and open seven days a week, Cumbria Travel’s Workington branch is a busy one. You can’t miss the bright agency, inviting with its colourful decor and smiling faces behind the desks. It’s the second of three agencies in the chain, owned by Tricia Rickerby and Leanne Miller, and opened its doors in 2017.

Since then the Workington branch has gone from strength to strength, with the team growing from eight to 12 over the past year due to demand.

The team is passionate about growing its knowledge of destinations across the globe, and does a good job of spreading this to customers too, via an “inspiration book” in the shop, filled with photographs of agents on trips, as well as via blogs and social media.

After taking a social media course last year, agent Demi-Jade Markham – who was also named High Street Agent of the Year at the TTG Travel Awards last year – has invested time in the branch’s Instagram account, growing followers from 1,000 to 3,000, and securing several bookings off the back of posts.

Cumbria Travel is committed to excellent customer service, so much so that on the day tour operator Super Break collapsed last year, two agents who were just 10 minutes away from a cruise ship visit in Greenoch, near Glasgow, turned right around and returned to the agency to help clients.

Agents at the branch love to get stuck in with a theme, and as well as taking part in a holiday show that takes over the shopping centre’s atrium, they’ve been known to dress up and celebrate Disney holidays to coincide with film releases at Dunmail Park’s cinema. Passionate about the community it serves, over Christmas the agency worked with a local charity to provide a holiday to Disneyland Paris for a young girl, with Demi delivering the surprise on a sleigh, dressed as a Disney Princess. The agency cares about the environment too, with a check-list presented to customers upon booking, advising them how to travel in a more sustainable way.
