A passion for travel lies at the heart of Liberty Travel, headed up by director Carolyn Davis who chooses staff members based on their passion rather than experience, then helps them quickly acquire the knowledge and skills they need to be the best they can be.
Liberty Travel’s approach to customer service is just as personalised as its approach to team training. The team has sponsored a rescue centre donkey to support a client whose wife had recently died, helped multiple couples adopt children from overseas, and they have taken a group of clients on a ship visit to ensure they’re choosing the right cruise. Just recently a family was due to celebrate a 60th birthday on an MSC cruise but missed their flight, so Carolyn booked them an entirely new holiday overnight and convinced the line to give the family 50% off a future cruise. Some team members even make restaurant reservations for clients in-destination.
The store is bright and spacious, with an additional room used for higher-spending clients and honeymooners. On the coffee table is Travelbug magazine, a publication Liberty Travel funds and distributes in Ireland to give clients ample holiday inspiration.
The agency is also big on themes, dressing up the store for Cruise Week and Disney Week – a big hit with children along with an iPad to play games on – and hosts regular client evenings with suppliers.
Liberty Travel is heavily involved with the local community too, attending a weekly breakfast club with fellow Letterkenny business owners, donating holiday vouchers to local schools and charities, and Carolyn is on the committee for the North West Breast Cancer Charity, for which Liberty Travel raised more than €3,500 last year.
It’s not just humans that the team cares for either - consultants discourage their customers from activities such as elephant rides and swimming with dolphins.
Meanwhile, Carolyn is in talks with a website developer and working on building a bigger Instagram presence, and once Liberty Travel’s digital offering is top class, there will be no stopping this team.
