With its stylish Farrow and Ball decor (a new colour scheme is selected every three years), chic brochure rack and artfully displayed suitcases, More Travel considers itself more “travel resource” than travel agency. But as its impressive customer reviews show, this store has more than enough substance to match its style.
All customers are treated to prosecco to make the booking experience special, no matter how big or small the holiday, while a separate VIP area is available for clients booking special breaks. Board games are stocked to keep children busy, although they’ll also be entertained by More Travel’s famous ancient suitcase, once owned by a missionary who died in a shipwreck, with the suitcase found packed full of diaries and notes from his expedition.
More Travel’s six-strong team ensures customer service is just as inspiring. Tickets are regularly hand-delivered and wine bottles placed in hotel rooms as a surprise for customers. Staff also offer a concierge system, from booking restaurant reservations to even helping customers plan wedding proposals. The team has also been known to contact a Caribbean hotel in search of a beautician to fix the nail of one customer’s girlfriend.
It’s no surprise then that the store boasts an impressive 63% repeat rate, receiving referrals from far and wide, with owner Helen Dooley admitting she’s never even met some of the agency’s most regular clients.
Despite this, More Travel hasn’t been resting on its laurels. In recent months it has launched a new cruise programme, steered by Thomas Cook’s former head of cruise partnerships Julie Berry. The agency also relaunched its website last year, adding a cruise section to champion its new focus.
Elsewhere, responsible tourism remains a key area for the team, who refuse to promote any operators offering elephant rides and won’t sell attractions where animals are forced to perform tricks. The agency also promotes the use of reusable water bottles.
More Travel is a huge supporter of the local community, often serving as a collection point for charities such as the Peterborough Homeless Centre and a Chernobyl children’s organisation. It also sponsors two Maasai children living in a Kenya-based orphanage.
