Travelmaker is one of several travel agencies on Guernsey but has worked hard to make its mark on the island. Branch manager Sandy Ogier is supported by her close-knit team – Irene, Shawnie and Karolina – who provide a warm and welcoming atmosphere, with customers often dropping in just for a catch up and homemade sandwiches.
In fact, customers are at the heart of everything the Travelmaker team does. An example of recent top notch service involved a client who was travelling to Amsterdam to be with her brother who was ill. She was worried she wouldn’t be able to take her electric buggy on the flight, so the team called up the manufacturer to check its dimensions and then contacted the airline to make sure there wouldn’t be any issues.
Making sure that customers get the most out of their holidays is very important, so Travelmaker staff will often put together packs with guide books and other thoughtful things that customers who have arranged surprise trips can present to their loved ones. One of these recently was for a holiday to Disneyland, which included Disney pens and a pair of the iconic Disney ears.
The Guernsey team joins forces with Travelmaker branches on Jersey for a hugely successful annual Travel Show held each September, where customers can hear from around 20 tour operators; a massive 400 people attend each year.
True to its customer-centric approach, when Thomas Cook collapsed, the agency rebooked 20 customers without taking any extra money from them, instead opting to reclaim the funds when the CAA paid out, which resulted in many positive comments from the community on their social media feeds.
Charitable causes are also a big focus, with two team members running Guernsey’s Race for Life in 2019. They also take part in Project Sparkle each year, which provides Christmas presents for people who would otherwise not get one, such as the elderly and sick. Last Christmas, the team stockpiled gifts and donated their own money towards goodies too, managing to make up 16 bags of presents.
