Silversea has confirmed “fewer than 100” shoreside staff have been made redundant to enhance its relationships with travel agents around the world.
However, the luxury cruise line declined to confirm how many roles in its UK team were affected when contacted by TTG.
Jasmin Day, who has been cruise consultant – trade sales at Silversea for the past 16 months, confirmed on LinkedIn her last day is 28 June after her role was made redundant.
Silversea’s decision to make roles redundant is part of efforts to offer agents 24-hour support globally.
TTG understands Silversea is creating a global contact centre for trade bookings in Manila, Philippines.
Silversea told TTG: “We have designed and implemented a global service model offering enhanced and more personalised service to our trade partners and guests.
“We are committed to supporting any impacted employees during this time and providing them with assistance.
“We will continue to drive growth with our travel advisory partners and support them in the most efficient and effective way possible.
"One of the ways to achieve this result is by creating a global trade reservation team leveraging our global footprint and capabilities.”
The news comes after Silversea took delivery of its second Nova Class ship ahead of its Mediterranean debut this summer.
Silver Ray was handed over to the line on 14 May in a ceremony in Dutch port Eemshaven, which was attended by Royal Caribbean Group’s president and chief executive Jason Liberty and new Silversea president Bert Hernandez.
