Exodus Adventure Travels has become a certified B Corporation (B Corp) after a year-long process of scrutinising the business to make sure it was meeting the highest environmental and social standards.
To achieve B Corp status, the tour operator needed to demonstrate its practices are socially and environmentally responsible.
These range from monitoring and publishing its carbon footprint to supporting its non-profit arm – the Exodus Travel Foundation – with its conservation projects.
“We believe that travelling the world is a privilege that comes with deep responsibilities,” Exodus Adventure Travels head of sustainability Rochelle Turner said on Monday (15 January).
“We take immense pride in becoming B Corp certified, as it signals to our customers and other stakeholders that we are running our business in a way that is dedicated to creating positive environmental and social change and acting with and for greater purpose. It’s the perfect start to our 50th birthday celebrations this year.”
To mark the achievement, Exodus Adventure Travels has also partnered with Blue Marine Foundation, an organisation dedicated to restoring marine life.
As part of its pledge, Exodus will donate at least £1 million over the next three years to support the restoration of 7,000 hectares of marine ecosystems.
Exodus Adventure Travels’ achievement comes as, last week, travel consultancy TTC and its subsidiaries The Travel Vault and Stonecott Trustees became the latest companies to join the B Corp movement, which features up to 1,500 firms in the UK alone.
Other travel brands that have B Corp status include Intrepid, Inside Travel Group and TTG Media, which became a B Corp late last year.
