There are no barriers to sharing in the Christmas spirit with Limitless Travel’s gift box of festive tours. We find out how they make the magic happen
Before anyone writes off Christmas markets for those with mobility issues, let’s raise a festive cheer for one operator who is devoted to sharing glad tidings of the season for all to enjoy, from the bright lights of London to pretty festive villages and yes, even traditional markets, full of atmosphere and all kinds of tempting aromas.
Festive Llandudno is among the seasonal tours offered by disabled holiday specialist Limitless Travel this year. The Hilton Doubletree Chester is the base for this five-day tour, which includes a visit to Chester’s Christmas Market and a matinee pantomime show. There’s also a day in Llandudno for some bracing sea air, and an accessible boat cruise on the river Mersey (from £1,424*).
Connor Stuart-Smith, marketing manager at Limitless, explains how the tours are curated: “Limitless staff personally research all the places we offer. We have staff members with mobility requirements and disabilities, and we also invite our guests to audit our tours to ensure they are always accessible. We avoid densely cobbled streets, as these can be uncomfortable for our guests. All itineraries are carefully planned with accessibility and comfort front of mind.”
Limitless also has London tour, with highlights including Hyde Park’s Winter Wonderland, featuring an accessible ice rink, Christmas at Kew and shopping at Harrods (from £1,499). The Kensington hotel used for this itinerary was built for athletes competing in the London 2012 Paralympics.
For those seeking entertainment and company on Christmas Day, Limitless offers a Windsor-based itinerary that tours the castle’s State Apartments on Christmas Eve, provides a sumptuous Christmas Day dinner, and heads to Hyde Park’s Winter Wonderland on Boxing Day (from £1,824). Stuart-Smith says: “Our tours sell out fast, particularly the Christmas Day tours, so we recommend booking ahead. The team will always do their best to find availability.”
Hotels are handpicked for their accessibility features such as wet-room bathrooms and large spaces for wheelchairs to negotiate bedrooms and communal areas.
Accessible coaches are also used. Stuart-Smith says: “Our coaches have hydraulic lifts so those in wheelchairs and with walking aids can board easily. Travellers can also be secured in their wheelchair onboard with no need to transfer to a seat. All drivers and guides are disability trained and there to support our guests.”
There are winter sun options too; for 2023 it’s an 11-day holiday in Tenerife (from £2,349), and looking ahead to 2024, you can book a 12-night Canary Island cruise onboard P&O’s Ventura (from £4,299).
