Colleen Pace, chief sales and marketing officer, Visit Greater Palm Springs, explains how Visit Greater Palm Springs is working with the London Design Festival and the Barbie brand on an incredible new project.
This month, Visit Greater Palm Springs is working with the London Design Festival and the Barbie brand on an incredible new project, in which installations will be showcased on the Strand in central London as part of London Design Festival, between 14-22 September. Visitors will be invited to step into a world where playful design meets desert modernism.
These three interactive Pavilions of Wonder have been brought to life by designer Nina Tolstrup of Studiomama, and celebrate the architectural heritage of Greater Palm Springs, as well as highlight the inclusive, welcoming and playful spirit of the destination. The installation will celebrate the instantly recognisable midcentury modern architecture prevalent throughout Greater Palm Springs in sunny Southern California – which boasts more midcentury modern structures than any other region in the United States – and the iconic architecture of Barbie’s DreamHouses, which have been inspired by the same unique style. Today, visitors can tour (and even vacation in) Frank Sinatra’s iconic “Twin Palms” residence and other celebrity homes.
We really hope visitors connect with the distinctive midcentury modern architecture via the installation’s design. The inclusion of landscape-inspired features reflects Greater Palm Springs’ emphasis on outdoor activities and wellness, providing a holistic experience of our destination’s unique offering for visitors here in our Southern California oasis.
