As interest in Japan picks up again, Tokyo City Promotion – the first official B2B Tokyo event since 2019 – is being hailed as an opportunity for agents and operators to meet with accommodation providers, airline contacts, rail operators, ground handlers and experience providers from Tokyo.

Tokyo Metropolitan Government will host Tokyo City Promotion at the Royal Lancaster hotel in London on 1 February, with participants attending the event also having the chance to win a trip to Tokyo.

The free event includes opportunities for meetings between buyers and sellers, as well as networking opportunities, the chance to make Japanese wagashi sweets, as well as the Discover Tokyo 2023 reception evening event, with Japanese food and drink.

New Tokyo hotel openings for 2023 include properties by Aman, Bulgari Hotels & Resorts, Edition Hotels, IHG Hotels & Resorts/Hotel Indigo, Tokyu Hotels and Trunk; as well as new attractions such as Harry Potter Studio, Jurassic World exhibition, and a new subterranean space for TeamLab’s immersive art experiences. Meanwhile, urban development projects set to open include Tokyu Kabukicho Tower, Tokyo MidTown Yaesu, and Toranomon-Azabudai Project.

Flight capacity from the UK to Japan is set to return to pre-Covid levels this quarter, when Japan Airlines (JAL) resumes its double daily service between London and Tokyo from 12 February. ANA restarted daily London to Tokyo flights in October and British Airways recommenced a daily Tokyo service in November. Finnair boosted its Tokyo services from seven to nine flights a week due to the reopening of the country’s borders.

The event is free for agents and takes place at the Royal Lancaster London on 1 February, with pre-registration required, by 16 January.

Agents and operators can attend from 10:00-17:00 and meet sellers from Tokyo including accommodation, airline, rail, ground handlers, and experience providers.

The day includes a trade seminar (12:30-13:15), giving an update on what’s new and happening in Tokyo and its islands, and discussing the legacy of the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020.

Those attending will then have the opportunity to participate in cultural experiences (14:00-17:00), such as learning the art of Japanese confectionary making.

The day will end with the Discover Tokyo 2023 reception (17:00-19:00), with the opportunity to win prizes.

Registration should be made online by 16 January.
