For clients looking to embrace the outdoors in 2023, The Star hotel in East Sussex is offering two Ramblers’ Retreats across the South Downs.
The retreats will run from 13 to 15 March and 24 to 26 April, and include a two-night stay at The Star, including breakfast and dinner, with walks hosted by the hotel’s co-founder Alex Polizzi and Sussex-based writer and walker Lizzie Enfield.
The Star is in a Grade II listed 15th century building in the medieval village of Alfriston, near the Seven Sisters and in the South Downs National Park, and close to the historic town of Lewes and to both Glyndebourne Opera House and Charleston. It opened in June 2021, and is run by mother and daughter duo, Olga and Alex Polizzi.
The routes will include highlights of the local area, including the Cuckmere Pilgrim Path, which is a circular route of approximately 12 miles that takes walkers on a pilgrimage around seven ancient churches.
Dogs are welcome, and the retreat is aimed at experienced ramblers, who are used to walking on varied terrain.
Prices start from £450pp, based on two people sharing a ground floor double room, and including breakfast on both mornings, two three-course dinners (excluding wines) on both nights, one packed lunch and three hosted walks.
