andBeyond executive chairman Joss Kent has joined the Pelorus board of experiential travel and yachting company, Pelorus, becoming a shareholder in the group.
Kent will help develop the global travel businesses, contributing his knowledge of conservation and logistics.
Growing up in Kenya helped Kent to become an Africa expert. As with Pelorus co-founders, Geordie Mackay-Lewis and Jimmy Carroll, prior to his travel career he trained at the Sandhurst before serving as a lieutenant in the British armed forces.
With a MBA from Harvard Business School, he then went on to work as a business analyst on Wall Street and management consultant in London.
Working his way up through the travel industry from a professional safari guide to global CEO of Abercrombie & Kent, Kent planned logistics and led safari expeditions for such clients as Bill Gates, Jimmy Carter and Gene Hackman.
As CEO of luxury experiential travel company andBeyond since 2012, and now also Executive Chairman, he drives the brand’s commitment to making a positive difference to the conservation of land, wildlife and communities.
Pelorus meanwhile specialises in experiential travel with every journey built from scratch by one of a global network of local experts. It involves experts from its little black book of scientists, archaeologists, marine biologists and conservationists.
Kent said: “Pelorus has long been on my radar as a travel company doing things differently, and I am delighted now to be formally involved as a board member and shareholder. I am looking forward to getting more involved in strategic delivery and to working with Jimmy, Geordie and the team to support them in creating more transformative trips for their clients”.
Geordie Mackay-Lewis, Founder of Pelorus said: ‘‘I am absolutely delighted to welcome Joss to the board of Pelorus at such an exciting point for the travel industry. This is our time to rewrite the history books and show travel for what it is, a force for good and for education.
“Joss’ experience will be fantastic in helping us to drive forward on our conservation projects and planning meaningful holidays that open up the world to our guests.”
