Joali Being, which is being billed as a sustainable wellbeing island retreat, has made its long-awaited debut in the Maldives.
The resort is located on the island of Bodufushi in the Raa Atoll and can be reached from Male International airport by a 40-minute seaplane flight.
Joali Being offers 68 beach and water villas, all with butler service, with each of the 13 villa categories featuring their own private pools.
Villas range from one to four bedrooms, with the four-bedroom Wellbeing Ocean Residence housing its own wellbeing room, gym, yoga facilities and “movement zone”.
The property’s wellbeing activities are created by its team of naturopaths, therapists, movement experts and nutritionists who work closely with guests. Joali Being also offers personalised immersion programmes ranging from five nights to three weeks.
General manager Ozgur Cengiz said: “It is a transformative destination aimed to inspire and ignite the very deepest of mindful connections to one’s self, one another and one’s environment by enhancing our relationship with the surrounding natural world, our bodies and our minds.
“Every element of this island works together to bring to life specialised spaces, opportunities, and unique moments that lend themselves to a vast array of possibilities.
Dining at Joali Being is focused around using “earth to table” ingredients with an open-plan area featuring three kitchens including Plantae, serving vegetarian and vegan cuisine.
Other facilities within the resort include Mojo, a three-layered sundeck, and the Sai tea lounge.
Sustainability initiatives include being home to one of three turtle conservation sanctuaries in the Maldives, as well as a reef restoration project and coral nursery.
The Joali brand is also working with benchmarking specialist EarthCheck on a range of long-term sustainability initiatives.
Joali Being includes a desalinating water bottling plant, rainwater harvesting and greywater recycling system, glass crusher and recycler, food waste composter and plant waste shredder for fertilising.
