British hotel designer Kit Kemp has taken over the loft space of one of New York’s leading upmarket stores, Bergdorf Goodman.
Kemp, who is co-owner and creative director of Firmdale Hotels, which has properties in London and New York, has created a retail space featuring furniture, fabrics, textiles and home accessories on the seventh floor of the department store on Fifth Avenue, with all items available for sale.
The World of Kit Kemp recreates a bedroom, drawing room and dining room with the “feel of a luxury hotel suite in the style of her New York hotels”. Firmdale owns The Whitby Hotel and Crosby Street Hotel in the city.
“With Bergdorf’s it is an opportunity to have all my collaborations and designs in one place under one roof,” explained Kemp. “It is the first time I have had the chance to do this, especially in such an iconic place.”
The Kit Kemp retail space at Bergdorf Goodman will run for four months until August 12. The store’s BG Restaurant will also be serving a special English afternoon tea using Kemp’s latest collection of fine bone china for Wedgwood, called Sailor’s Farewell.
