Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants has announced that its first European resort hotel will open later this summer in Majorca.
The Kimpton Aysla Mallorca is in the town of Santa Ponsa, 14km from Palma and 20 minutes from the island’s airport, and it will be open year-round.
Designed by local architect Guillermo Reynes, Kimpton Aysla Mallorca has 79 rooms, located around central Majorcan-style patios. The colour palette features neutral tones and natural materials with pops of bright turquoise in soft furnishings and textiles.
Rooms feature floor-to-ceiling windows, private balconies, a rain shower, a separate bathtub, and complimentary access to the property’s spa.
Kimpton Aysla Mallorca will be home to two restaurants and two bars, and will offer an evening social hour, where guests are encouraged to gather and socialise.
A range of workshops with resident artisans on the island are also planned. These are designed to educate guests about local traditions, and include a visit to a local workshop that produces handcrafted Majorcan artisanal shoes. Guests can learn about the island’s crafts and take a personalised pair home.
General manager Alejandro Bautista Gomez said: “At Kimpton Aysla Mallorca, we have thoughtfully combined touches of local tradition with modern art and culture, establishing an environment that exceeds the needs and desires of today’s traveller to build an unforgettable experience.”
The fitness and wellness activities include road cycling, morning workouts, guided meditation and yoga lessons. The hotel also has two outdoor pools, and the Maison Codage Paris spa, with an indoor pool, mud baths, sauna, a salt cave, and seven treatment rooms.
Tom Rowntree, vice president of global luxury brands for parent group IHG Hotels & Resorts, said: “At IHG Hotels & Resorts, we’ve spent the last few years finessing our Luxury & Lifestyle portfolio to ensure that guests can discover the right brand to suit their voyage. This opening officially establishes our resort presence in Europe, welcoming travellers to the island with Kimpton’s beloved perks, unexpected touches, and heartfelt service.”
The Kimpton brand plans to open seven properties across the globe in 2022, including its first hotel in Bali. Properties are also in the pipeline for Germany, Mexico, Malaysia, China, Hong Kong and the Netherlands over the next three to five years.
