LUX Resorts is hoping WTM London will provide a springboard for the launch of its newest hotel, LUX Grand Baie Resort & Residences in Mauritius, the latest opening for The Lux Collective.
Seen as a new flagship for the brand, the 116-room resort will open in December and comes just after the island lifted many of its remaining travel restrictions and reopened fully in October.
The new hotel is in the Grand Baie area in the island’s north, and interiors have been conceived by London-based designer Kelly Hoppen. Among the concepts at the resort will be Beach Rouge, an upbeat beach club concept, and Ai KISU for Asian cuisine and Japanese “warayaki” – or straw fire – cooking.
The resort will also feature an adults-only rooftop area with a 30-metre infinity pool, a raw-food restaurant and bar called Bisou, as well as an open-air wellness space and spinning studio. Situated in the heart of the main kitchens will be Food Lab, including a cookery school for guests, while other features at the resort will be the LUX Me Wellbeing spa and the PLAY kids’ club, which includes the introduction of activities such as aquaponics and exploration in the hotel’s vegetable garden.
“Since Mauritius reopened fully on 1 October, we are seeing strong demand from European travellers ahead of the winter season, which shows they are learning to live with what may be an ever-evolving virus,” said Julian Hagger, executive vice-president of The Lux Collective.
“Travel is synonymous with freedom, discovery and happiness, all of which cannot be suppressed indefinitely, and with most of our resorts having used the downtime to refurbish and upgrade their facilities, the Lux Collective is very well positioned to take full advantage of this pent-up demand, whether it be for leisure or MICE.”
One of the group’s other hotels on the island to unveil a new look is LUX Le Morne Resort, where the resort’s executive team worked with Studio Des Iles Architects to oversee a restoration of the 24-year-old property over the past year.
The Lux Collective has also just announced the launch of a new project in the Middle East, with plans for two projects in Sharjah.
