Off Broadway Travel has combined its conference and fam trip with a good cause, taking Race Across the World’s Alfie Watts with them to Mauritius for a very important reason.
Off Broadway said it was “so exciting” to be able to work with Watts during the recent fam trip hosted by Beachcomber Tours.
The whole team of the Welwyn-based travel agency flew to Mauritius for its annual fam trip and conference, having previously held the event in Cyprus and Crete.
For the first few days, the agents completed tours of various Beachcomber resorts, including Trou Aux Biches, Dinarobin and Mauricia, while also sampling some of the islands’ finest cuisine. Meanwhile on the second part of the trip, from Friday to Sunday, Off Broadway’s homeworkers participated in a conference and seminars with one-on-one consultations with the senior team.
What made this trip unique, however, was its charitable angle. Off Broadway used the experience to uplift the local community, teaming up with the Ministry for Youth and Sports to deliver kits to football teams for underprivileged children after making a quiet donation to a club last year.
Speaking exclusively to TTG Luxury, Off Broadway founder Tricia Conroy-Smith said Watts’ work with sports charities made him the perfect person to collaborate with. The recent series four Race Across the World winner - who is also a keen referee - launched ‘Football Starts With Hope’ earlier this year to raise funds for children’ s football clubs in developing nations.
“Our brands lined up well together; we wanted to support the team from last year, he was on Race Across the World 2024 and he’s passionate about football,” Conroy-Smith revealed.
Watts also has invaluable contacts in the football merchandise industry, having previously worked with UK charity Kit Aid and Charity Boots to bring Premier League gear to children in Malaysia.
The 21-year-old was able to supply 120kg worth of brand new kit, including the Reading Away strip from last season.
“The kids were jumping around and laughing and high-fiving when they got the new uniforms. They loved the fact they all had the same kit,” Conroy-Smith said.
It helped that Watts, who won the popular BBC reality series with his best friend Owen Wood, is also a pleasure to be around.
“Alfie is such a laugh,” added Kevin Beattie, head of business development at Off Broadway. “I don’t think the whole group has belly laughed like this in so long. He held his own and spoke to everyone. He is such a lovely young guy.”
These sentiments were echoed by Off Broadway’s Claire Conroy Oldham, who revealed that Watts blended right into their lively team from the offset.
“He walked into a situation where we all know each other very well, and he laughed with us, joked with us, and took it all on the chin, and got involved with everything,” she said.
As for what’s on the horizon for 2025, Off Broadway said “good things are coming” with Conroy-Smith sharing hopes to expand the agency’s homeworking team.
