Cruise company Ponant is offering a two-day Nordic skiing polar trek in Greenland as part of an itinerary on Le Commandant Charcot.
The one-night “full immersion” expeditions, which only have a capacity for 10 people, have gone on sale as an option for passengers sailing on Inuit Spring of Ammassalik round-trip voyages from the Icelandic capital of Reykjavik in both 2023 and 2024.
The polar trek will see guests using Nordic skis and sleds, known as pulkas, to complete a loop of around 15 kilometres and explore ice floes in Greenland. The group will be accompanied by three English-speaking local guides and a Ponant naturalist.
The trip, which costs £875 per person, requires participants to have “some experience” of winter sports such as skiing, snowshoeing or cross-country skiing. There will around seven hours of hiking on Nordic skis with frequent breaks. The expedition also includes one night’s camping.
The 11-day Inuit Spring of Ammassalik itinerary Le Commandant Charcot will depart twice in May 2023 as well as three times during spring 2024.
