The Reykjavik Edition has opened “in preview” in the centre of the Icelandic capital as the design-led brand continues its expansion.
The 253-room property is the latest Edition from boutique hotel pioneer Ian Schrager who has collaborated with New York-based design studio Roman & Williams on the project.
Schrager said: “Reykjavik is a really cool, young city - perfect for our brand. We think this is Reykjavik’s time and we’re right here at the very heart of it and at the perfect time.
“In Iceland, you’re getting to see things you won’t see anywhere else. More so than any other place in the world, it’s a real opportunity to get in touch with earth and nature.”
Reykjavik Edition is located on the city’s harbourside and features a rooftop venue on the seventh floor with panoramic views of surrounding mountains.
The hotel also includes several bars, a “signature” restaurant Tides run by chef Gunnar Karl Gislason, and a nightclub.
The lobby has been designed to use volcanic rock as part of the flooring, while the Tolt bar has been inspired by the London Edition’s Punch Room.
All rooms and suites have floor-to-ceiling windows, with some also featuring outdoor terraces, including the Penthouse Suite on the sixth floor.
Sunset will be a nightclub based on the lower ground floor and is due to open later this year, while there is also a gym and a spa with three treatment rooms, hammam, steam room, sauna, plunge pool and bar.
