Seabourn guests can access improved WiFi in the Arctic and Antarctica on the line’s expedition vessel Seabourn Venture, after the line signed a deal with Elon Musk’s SpaceX to deliver its Starlink technology.
Seabourn’s vice president UK and Europe Lynn Narraway said the ship will be the first in the fleet to be equipped with “the next generation WiFi connectivity from Starlink”, describing the company as “the leader in low earth orbit satellite technology.”
Narraway was speaking at a trade event onboard Seabourn Venture during its first visit to the UK on Thursday (11 May). The service will start on Friday (12 May) on the ship’s 12-day Lands of the Celts voyage from Greenwich to Leith. It will be available on all Seabourn Venture sailings, and will be rolled out on sister ship Seabourn Pursuit when it launches this July.
Narraway added: “This upgraded technology will provide these expedition ships with faster service and greater connectivity so when the ships are down in Antarctica or in the Arctic our guests will be able to connect much more easily.”
She said improved WiFi was a topic agents were asked for “many times by their guests”, as many clients are still working and “need that connectivity.”
The technology was introduced by Windstar Cruises in February, and is offered by Royal Caribbean, Carnival Corporation and American Cruise Lines.
