The Signet Collection is to open its second property in 2022 with a new hotel based in a historic building in Berkshire.
The company, which opened its first hotel The Mitre Hampton Court in September 2020, will unveil The Retreat Elcot Park in spring 2022, which is set in 16 acres of grounds with views of the Wessex Downs.
The new property will be based in a Grade II-listed 18th century building between Hungerford and Newbury, which was once the childhood home of poet Percy Bysshe Shelley.
The Retreat will feature 55 rooms for guests, as well as two dining venues – an all-day brasserie and a pan-Asian restaurant – headed up by chef Ronnie Kimbugwe, who previously worked at Claridge’s in London and is one of the driving forces behind the new hotel brand.
Other facilities will include a walled working garden, outdoor infinity pool, tennis courts, croquet lawns and a children’s zone. There will also be a health club featuring hydrotherapy pools, treatment rooms, sauna, gym, spin studio and wellness area, while The Courtyard will offer a range of shops, including a bakery, coffee house, hair salon and wine store.
Hector Ross, Signet Collection’s managing partner, said: “As with The Mitre Hampton Court, we look forward to unveiling a property which will be enjoyed in the context of its historical significance, both preserving and restoring authenticity, coupled with offering a vast array of activities on site to keep our guests entertained.
“With a focus on creating memorable experiences, informality of design, exquisite food and service, we believe The Retreat will be a much-loved addition to the area, involving both the local community and travellers from afar.”
