Silversea has officially named its latest ship in a traditional christening ceremony in Fort Lauderdale, with celebrity chef Nina Compton as godmother.
Award-winning chef Compton was chosen as godmother in line with Silversea’s S.A.L.T programme, which aims to elevate dining on board to reflect culinary traditions of destinations visited during voyages, as well as taking guests on shore excursions with a local food theme.
Ultra-luxury ship Silver Nova hosts up to 728 guests in 13 suite categories, each with private verandas and butler service. The ship has been hailed as “the most environmentally conscious ultra-luxury ship ever built” and its open design is also new for the category, intended to offer far-reaching views from virtually all areas and suites, with a pool deck that overlooks the water, and all-new outdoor venues the Dusk Bar and the Marquee. The ship also boasts the highest guest-to-space ratio in the fleet.
At the ceremony, Sliversea president Barbara Muckermann said: “It’s fitting that we officially named Silver Nova – a truly pioneering ship – in the same year Silversea celebrates its 30th anniversary: the ship connects our history with our tomorrow, striking a perfect balance between our brand’s refined heritage and the future of ultra-luxury cruise travel.”
“A strong expression of our brand positioning, Silver Nova will immerse guests into the world’s most enriching destinations, championing human connection and cultural discovery. For this reason, chef Nina Compton is the perfect fit for the ship’s godmother – her values perfectly align with those at the heart of our S.A.L.T culinary program, and I have no doubt she will inspire our guests to engage meaningfully with the planet and its people.”
Following the naming ceremony, Silver Nova embarked on the ship’s first Grand Voyage South America itinerary, circumnavigating the continent and calling at 38 destinations in 18 countries over 71 days.
