The Sommerro hotel will open in Oslo on 1 September, occupying the former headquarters of the capital city’s electrical company, Oslo Lysverker.
The 1930s-era building in the borough of Frogner is set to be Norway’s largest-ever preservation project, with numerous art deco touches. The decor will also feature modern tributes to Norwegian cultural heritage, with Norse furniture motifs inspired by local artists and a giant wall fresco by famed Norwegian artist Per Krohg.
The 231 room property will also offer 56 branded residences and seven restaurants and bars. The rooftop space will include TAK Oslo, a Nordic-Japanese restaurant helmed by chef Frida Ronge, a sauna, and the city’s only year-round rooftop pool.
The property will also feature a range of programmes and activities, including a live musical residency with jazz musician and composer Maren Selvaag; an art collection curated by Sune Nordgren; a large wellbeing space; and electric sauna boat trips on nearby fjords.
New cultural highlights in Oslo include The National Museum, which opened in June and is the largest museum in the Nordics. Sommerro guests will be able to book private guided tours of art deco artwork in the museum.
The property is a member of Preferred Hotels & Resorts’ Legend Collection and rates start from £205 per double room including breakfast.
