The Standard has opened its first hotel in Thailand, with the arrival of a lifestyle resort in the coastal town of Hua Hin.
The beachside property comes with “Sinatra-inspired design and nostalgia”, three restaurants, a spa with alternative healing therapies, pool and range of activities including kiteboarding and horse riding on the beach or beach tennis.
The Standard, Hua Hin has 178 guest rooms and suites and 21 pool villas, while the resort’s in-house DJ will play the soundtrack for sunset and pre-dinner cocktails. As well as Hua Hin, also upcoming is the Asia flagship for the brand, The Standard, Bangkok Mahanakhon, slated to open in early 2022.
“An extraordinary amount of care and thought has been put into every detail of this property, from its location to the architecture, landscape and design to our food, cocktails, music, art, uniforms and scent,” said Amar Lalvani, executive chairman of Standard International. “We have blended Hua Hin’s understated elegance with The Standard’s playful approach to hospitality. There is nothing like the experience we have created anywhere in Thailand.”
Lido Restaurant and Bar is an Italian-all-day dining restaurant with year-round al fresco spaces. There is also a restored heritage house on the property reinvented as Praca, a beachfront restaurant serving traditional Thai family-style dishes and cocktails. The third option is The Juice Cafe, which offers coffees, pressed juices, smoothies, elixirs, gelato and freshly baked treats.
Treatments at The Spa will incorporate traditional Thai elements, but also “fun moments” such as the Mud Lounge, where guests slather themselves in healing clay, or the Monk Lounge, which delivers soothing stimuli after spa sessions as well as glow-in-the-dark moon yoga.
The hotel is built on the site of the first residential property to be constructed along Hua Hin’s beach and its design is overseen by the Standard’s in-house design team and in partnership with Onion Architects, Studio Freehand and Shelley Kwok Design.
Opening offers include Standard Time, which allows guests to select their check-in and check-out times at any time of day and night and the Stowaway Long Stay Special which offers guests with a minimum stay of three consecutive nights daily breakfast for two, 15% off all other food and beverage, 15% off a la carte menu at The Spa, 15% off laundry service, use of Kayak and Stand-Up Paddle Board (SUP) equipment for 1 hour/day and up to 30% off from best available rates at the resort.
Created in 1999, The Standard now includes hotels in New York, Los Angeles, Miami, London and the Maldives.
