Luxury camp operator Wilderness Safaris and wild cat conservation specialist Panthera have created a special seven-day trip to Zambia operating later this year.
The lion conservation safari to Busanga Plains in Kafue National Park, which will be hosted by Dr Kim Young-Overton, will be held on 26 September–2 October 2022.
Young-Overton is a recognised specialist in threatened species and ecosystem management, while the trip will also be hosted by Dr Neil Midlane, group impact manager at Wilderness Safaris.
Dean Morton, acting managing director of Wilderness Zambezi, said: “This trip is an incredible opportunity to experience the valuable intersection of impact tourism and hands-on conservation efforts.
“In the Kafue, Wilderness’ history with Panthera dates back to 2010, when Dr Neil Midlane initiated the Kafue Lion Project, the first study into the species in this unique landscape.
“Wilderness’ continued support for Panthera, as well as recent surveys, suggest that the lion population is responding well to the team’s interventions.”
Guests taking part in the trip will have behind-the-scenes access to Kafue’s lion conservation initiatives including spending time with Panthera’s research team and joining their monitoring units.
They can also take part in a game count, camera trapping and meet wildlife police officers.
