Abta’s head of membership Danny Waine is poised to leave the association at the end of the year.
Waine joined Abta in October 2020 from Hotelplan Group where he was commercial director for its holiday homes division.
A search for his successor is under way. Waine, who plans to relocate from London, has confirmed he will remain in travel.
Rachel Jordan, Abta’s director of membership and financial protection, said Waine’s impact had been "phenomenal".
"He took on the role several months into the pandemic, when the travel industry was in a very different place, and has helped to support our members with recovering, rebuilding and adapting their businesses to once again achieve success," said Jordan.
"The entire Abta team will greatly miss Danny and wish him all the best for his future endeavours."
Waine’s background in travel is in the wedding and honeymoons sector, him being the co-founder of overseas wedding specialist Perfect Weddings Abroad. He went on to join the TTG 30 Under 30 Class of 2013.
After a spell in sales and business development with Italian fashion and design school Istituto Marangoni, Waine returned to travel in late 2018 to head up commercial at Hotelplan’s Interhome brand.
He is also a long-time member of the Institute of Travel and Tourism (ITT); in 2008, he co-founded the ITT Future You initiative, and has since 2019 sat on the ITT board, of which he became vice-chair last year.
"I’ve had an amazing four years at Abta, working with members to help support their businesses through some of the most challenging years for our industry," said Waine.
"While it’s bittersweet to be leaving, I have some personal ambitions I’m excited to pursue and will still be very much part of the travel industry family."
Waine’s husband Dave Osborne returned to the travel industry earlier this year as account manager of new agency brand Travel Perfection after being approached by Helen Doyle, managing director of Perfect Weddings Abroad, who wanted to set up a sister agency focusing on the luxury sector.
