Hurtigruten has hired Saga Travel Group’s trading director Iain Powell to fill the UK and EMEA sales and marketing vice-president role vacated by Anthony Daniels last week.
The Norwegian cruise operator said Powell brings “extensive expertise from the travel and cruise industry, making him a pivotal addition to the team”.
Hurtigruten added that Powell’s appointment highlighted its “commitment to furthering partnerships” in the UK and EMEA markets.
Powell will take up Daniels’ role on 18 March.
Hurtigruten chief executive Hedda Felin said: "We are delighted to welcome Iain Powell to our team as the vice-president, sales and marketing, UK and EMEA.
“His wealth of experience and industry knowledge will be invaluable as we continue to strengthen our influence in the UK market, which is key to Hurtigruten’s global strategy.”
Powell added that Hurtigruten is a company that he had “long admired”, adding that now was “a fantastic opportunity” to lead the company’s UK and EMEA teams.
“I have been lucky enough to form strong relationships in the industry, and I feel very fortunate to now be joining a business with such awareness and recognition of the importance of their agent partners,” he said.
“I also feel very privileged to inherit such a strong, dedicated, and passionate team that together with our trade partners will be vital in supporting the growth of Hurtigruten as we embark on this next phase.”
Chief commercial officer Patrick Brewer said: “[Powell] brings with him extensive experience and trade network from the travel and cruise industry, which will be of high importance for us in the coming time of increasing our sales goals in these key markets.
“He has strong results behind him and with his leadership and track record, I see great opportunities and an exciting time ahead in the UK and EMEA markets.”
