British Airways is set to reverse its decision to scrap plans for short-haul flights from Gatwick, according to reports.
The carrier had revealed plans to operate an independent subsidiary offering the full BA-style service using a fleet of up to 17 Airbus A320s, but scrapped the scheme after failing to reach an agreement with pilots union Balpa.
But, according to The Telegraph, bosses at the union will take a new pay deal to pilots after reopening talks last week in the hope that they will support changes at the airport. Balpa is set to meet with pilots to discuss their thoughts on the new plans.
An airline spokesperson reportedly said: "Our short-haul operation at Gatwick was consistently unprofitable and we were clear that we could not restart short-haul flights unless we were able to establish a competitive platform.
"While we have been actively pursuing alternative uses for our slots, last week Balpa asked us to resume discussions. These talks were constructive, addressed key concerns and have secured the efficiencies required. Balpa is now taking a new proposal to its members."
