Delta has suspended all departing flights following a systems failure in the US.
The airline is one of the world’s biggest and its hub in Atlanta is the world’s busiest airport. The carrier said a computer outage meant flights currently awaiting departure were delayed but that those en route were operating normally.
The airline advised travellers to check their flight status while it attempted to fix the problem. Virgin Atlantic is 49% owned by Delta and a spokesperson for the UK carrier said: “All Virgin Atlantic-operated flights are departing as normal.
"Some customers may be booked on a code-share ticket with our partner, Delta Air Lines.
"If so, customers should check the status of their flights, while Delta addresses the computer outage that has impacted its flights scheduled for this morning.”
