EasyJet is set to open its three-aircraft base in Birmingham in mid-March, earlier than initially expected.
The low-cost carrier has said the new base will be operational from 18 March 2024, expanding its destination portfolio with 16 new routes to the UK, Europe and North Africa – including services to Antalya, Alicante and Tenerife.
Other routes include twice-weekly flights to Berlin, Dalaman and Corfu, as well as once-a-week services to Rhodes, Sharm el Sheikh and Heraklion.
According to easyJet, the opening will also create 100 direct jobs as well as more than 1,200 indirect ones.
“To say we’re excited is an understatement,” said Birmingham airport aviation director Tom Screen. “This will bring jobs to the region and greater choice for customers, particularly as easyJet holidays cements its place in the Midlands market with great package deals.”
Flights are available to book from Thursday (30 November) while package holidays are on sale now.
“Investing in a ninth base in the UK strengthens easyJet’s network by positioning it as the carrier of choice to serve UK consumers and capture demand for travel, further growing our share of the UK leisure market for both the airline and easyJet holidays,” added easyJet UK country manager Ali Gayward.
It comes as easyJet has reported a £432 million pre-tax profit following a 14% hike in capacity to 92.6 million seats.
