EasyJet holidays has pledged to make “sustainable holidays mainstream” by developing the first ever ESG framework for tourism businesses.
“We have big ambitions when it comes to making sustainable holidays mainstream and we’re committed to playing our part in supporting better tourism governance,” said director of customer and operations Matt Callaghan on Thursday (15 June).
The tour operator will join the World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) and Oxford University to carry out a mapping of current business practices and develop a tool for better monitoring the impact of tourism on the environment and people.
Working alongside Oxford University students, easyJet holidays will specifically focus on identifying and delivering solutions to develop sustainable travel.
“Collaboration is key when it comes to making real world impact, so we look forward to helping develop a framework that can be a force for good for the entire travel and tourism industry,” Callaghan added.
The ESG framework comes on the heels of easyJet holidays piloting an AI-backed initiative to help reduce food waste in hotels. The company announced on 25 May the technology would help save up to 20% in commercial kitchens while continuing to offer customers a broad range of products.
