The EU will formally recognise the NHS Covid Pass starting Friday (29 October), the bloc has confirmed.
The European Commission on Thursday (28 October) said it would grant the NHS pass equivalence with its EU Digital Covid Certificate. The move is reciprocal, with the UK agreeing to accept the EU certificate as proof of vaccination.
EU commissioner Didier Reynders said: “Safer travel is a reality thanks to the EU Digital Covid Certificate, which is now the leading global standard – 45 countries in four continents are connected to the system, and more will follow in the coming weeks and months. We are open to other countries to join our system.”
Several European countries unilaterally recognised the NHS pass earlier this year, but sign off from the commission means it should now be accepted across the EU.
The Guardian reports equivalence will extend to NHS Covid passes issued in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
