Tui is “excited” to start engaging with Doncaster Sheffield airport’s stakeholders ahead of the site’s potential reopening, the region’s mayor has said.
In a Facebook post on Friday (12 April), Ros Jones revealed how Tui is “keen to return” to DSA and that the travel giant has kept in “regular contact” with the local authority since autumn 2022 when the airport closed.
Speaking to Jones, a Tui spokesperson said: “Tui has always supported Doncaster Sheffield Airport, proudly flying customers from the region and were disappointed when the airport closed.
“Doncaster Sheffield Airport delivered a fantastic airport experience for our customers, and we are excited about actively engaging with stakeholders about a potential re-opening.”
Last month, the City of Doncaster Council agreed a 125-year lease with the airport’s owners, Peel Group, which had earlier refused to sell the facility. The deal came 16 months after the airport was closed when Wizz Air pulled out.
The Doncaster Free Press has also reported South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority had granted access to £138 million in funds to reopen the airport.
