Greece will host agent fams and invest in co-marketing with the trade to help Rhodes rebound from the wildfires that tore across the island last month, prompting the evacuation of almost 20,000 people.
The Greek National Tourism Organisation (GNTO) said on Tuesday (1 August) it will invite travel partners on fam trips, allowing them to experience first-hand the island’s post-wildfire recovery, while reigniting co-advertising programmes with tour operators and airlines.
The tour operator also announced it will work alongside Greek regional and municipal authorities on a long-term strategy of conservation efforts as well as infrastructural development to ensure the island’s recovery and long-term future.
Meanwhile, the Greek government said it was working on aiding local businesses and populations.
The campaign comes as Greek officials have lifted the state of emergency that was implemented due to the wildfires. “The ‘state of emergency’ in Rhodes, declared by the Greek authorities on 26 July, has now been lifted,” read the latest FCDO travel advice.
It follows UK tour operators – including Jet2holidays, Tui and easyJet holidays – restarting breaks to Rhodes at the weekend.
