Hays Travel will return for a second consecutive year as sponsor of the Sandals Foundation’s Island Run, which aims to raise funds for sick children in the Caribbean.
Now into its 15th year, the run will take place in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and will see participants run, kayak and finally hike the 50-mile route to the top of La Soufriere, the island’s highest peak and only active volcano.
The runners are aiming to raise £100,000 for the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital and other healthcare facilities catering for babies and children living with cancer.
"The money raised by this year’s participants will fund emergency paediatric healthcare and make a real difference to people living in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines,” said Hays Travel owner Dame Irene Hays.
Dame Irene continued: “The Sandals Foundation is an excellent organisation, and we wish all those taking part every success in completing what looks like an exciting set of challenges in a stunning location.”
Hays Travel’s commercial assistant Katharine Dunwoodie, who attended the foundation’s 15th anniversary last month to learn about its ethos and campaigns, added: "We encourage everyone to donate to the Island Challenge if they can to support Caribbean families and their children."
Donations can be made via the Sandals Foundation Island Challenge – Saint Vincent 2024 JustGiving page.
