Intrepid Travel has committed up to £50,000 to support relief efforts following the devastating earthquake that claimed the lives of more than 2,000 in Morocco over the weekend, with the death toll expected to continue rising in the coming days.
The operator and experience provider said it will match donations to support its long-term NGO partners, Education for All and the High Atlas Foundation, who are on the ground assisting the hundreds of thousands of people hit by the earthquake.
“While many of us cannot even begin to understand this level of loss, we can, by supporting this appeal, directly supply those impacted with emergency relief and support,” said Biheng Zang, general manager of Intrepid Travel’s not-for-profit, The Intrepid Foundation.
“Through this relief effort, we hope to give back to the country that has given so much to our travel community,” added Intrepid Travel managing director for Europe and the Middle East, Zina Bencheikh.
Considered the worst in over a century, the earthquake struck the country on Friday night (8 September) around 44 miles to south-west of Marrakech.
It is the second time in a month that Intrepid Travel has launched an emergency appeal, as it in mid-August the operator committed £40,000 to support relief efforts following the Hawaii wildfires.
