Israel’s ministry of tourism will host a series of guided tours to help Ukrainians fleeing Russia’s invasion settle in their new home country.
More than 160 Russian-speaking guides have registered to take part in the project.
The ministry said it would operate the tours for as long as they remain necessary and cover transport and guidance costs.
Tours will highlight Israel’s nature parks, as well as other sites around the country.
Tourism minister Yoel Razvozov said he hoped the tours would be a positive experience for those in need.
“As someone who made Aliyah [migrated] to Israel, I know how challenging that first period in a new, unfamiliar country can be – and how much you yearn for activities in a language you understand," he said.
“This is what we can provide. During the pandemic, the tourism industry was the first to close and the last to open. Now, when people are in genuine distress, the industry is immediately coming together to offer a helping hand to the new immigrants.”
