Jet2.com and Jet2holidays marked their inaugural service to Santorini from Edinburgh on Thursday (26 May).
The service marked the start of the airline and operator’s summer service to destinations across the Mediterranean, including Greece, operating weekly Thursday services to the island from Edinburgh this summer from 26 May to 27 October.
Meanwhile, the companies’ inaugural flight to Skiathos from Edinburgh will depart on Friday (27 May), followed by their first flights to Izmir on Saturday (28 May) and Preveza on Sunday (29 May).
The start of services to the Greek and Turkish destinations from the base comes in response to a reported "strong demand" from local customers and agents for summer 22 flights and holidays.
The addition of Santorini, Skiathos, Izmir and Preveza to Jet2.com and Jet2holidays’ summer 22 programme from Edinburgh means the companies are operating to nine Greek destinations from the base this summer – Corfu, Crete, Kos, Preveza, Rhodes, Santorini, Skiathos, Halkidiki and Zante and four Turkish destinations – Antalya, Bodrum, Dalaman and Izmir.
Steve Heapy, chief executive of Jet2.com and Jet2holidays, said: "We are delighted to see our first flight take off to Santorini today from Edinburgh airport.
"It is fantastic to be operating to this popular sunshine destination from Edinburgh, as we know that this new route will prove popular with customers and independent travel agents in the region."
