Departures for the May bank holiday weekend are still lagging behind pre-pandemic levels, new data has revealed.
According to aviation analytics firm Cirium, UK departures over the holiday period set to come in 14% behind 2019 levels, with 7,735 flights scheduled to take off over the weekend.
Departures are up, though, compared with 2022 by 9%, and by 579% compared with 2021 when most people couldn’t travel due to widespreadCovid travel restrictions and lockdowns.
According to Cirium’s figures, most Britons will head to European cities, with Dublin, Amsterdam, Palma and Malaga among the most popular destinations.
With 1,599 departures, easyJet is set to be the busiest airline while Heathrow will see the largest number of departures, followed by Gatwick, Stansted and Manchester airports.
