A wheelchair rugby star has set up a website covering accommodation with disabled access.
AccessAllRooms.com has been launched by James Price, who was left two-thirds paralysed after a diving accident in 1999. Price went on to become a GB Wheelchair Rugby development director and currently captains the Leicester Tigers team.
The website contains basic details often missing from hotel information such as room dimensions and door widths. There is also information pertinent to older travellers.
Price also runs the Global Access Award Scheme (GAAS), claimed to be the first global accessible hotel rating system.
This has five tiers, with a level five rating meaning excellent facilities including accessible light switches and a fully adapted bathroom.
Lower grades imply fewer facilities and poorer access but that the property will still be suitable for many travellers.
GAAS also provides access information for those with sensory impairments by showing an ear or an eye as part of the logo.
Gradings are based on a questionnaire and photographic evidence.
Price said: “I look forward to giving something back to the disabled community. After my accident I was determined that my disability would not stop me from seeing the world and I want to give others this opportunity too.”
