Tunisia will need to work hard to convince the UK public that it is a safe holiday destination, according to a poll of TTG readers.
Following the news that Thomas Cook had reinstated its programme to the north African country, TTG asked the UK travel trade if they believed there was still demand from customers for Tunisia.
More than 100 responded, with half (56.1%) responding “no”, stating that they believed people still have security concerns about the destination.
Only 43.9% answered "yes", agreeing that customers had been asking to go back to Tunisia even while the FCO had its travel restrictions in place.
The results come despite Cook insisting that customer demand was behind its reason for restarting its Tunisia programme.
Carol McKenzie, Cook’s head of customer welfare, added in a blog: “Since it closed for British holidaymakers two years ago, we’ve had lots of customers asking us when Tunisia will be back on sale.”
