All 66,000 employees of Royal Caribbean Cruises are to receive a share windfall following a record-breaking year.
RCL will give all staff except corporate officers shares worth 5% of their 2017 salary after the cruise giant achieved a goal of doubling earnings per share and seeing a double-digit return on investment. RCL estimates the equity is worth $80 million in total.
Employees will be able to cash in the shares in three years. They will be given to all shipboard and shore staff, both full and part-time. In addition, RCCL has pledged to upgrade crew living and recreational areas.
"Exceptional results require exceptional effort," said Richard D. Fain, RCL’s chairman and chief executive. “We want to thank every one of our people for the hard work that got us to today’s announcement, and give them a stake in our success going forward."
