Virgin Atlantic has cancelled its Johannesburg to Heathrow service after six southern African countries were added to the UK government’s red list.
The suspension of flights will come into effect at midday Friday (26 November) until 4am Sunday (28 November).
The recent update saw South Africa, Botswana, Lesotho, Eswatini, Zimbabwe and Namibia added to the list from midday Friday (26 November).
Non-UK and Irish residents who have been in the six countries in the previous 10 days will be refused entry into England until 4am Sunday (28 November), when they will be required to book and pay for a government-approved hotel quarantine facility for 10 days.
A spokesperson for Virgin Atlantic said: “Until 4am on Sunday 28 November, a passenger flight ban from South Africa to the UK will also be enforced by the UK government, which will unfortunately result in the cancellation of our Johannesburg to London Heathrow services during this window.
“We’re currently reviewing our schedule of South Africa operations for the coming week and recommend that any customers booked to travel to or from South Africa with us check their flight status on our website.
