Wizz Air is considering plans to launch flights from the UK to Asia and the Middle East as part of its ambitious plans to expand into the long-haul market, according to reports in the national press.
The low-cost carrier – which currently focusses on the European market – is said to be considering new routes to the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Israel.
Speaking to the Financial Times , Marion Geoffroy, managing director of Wizz Air UK, said the Hungarian-owned airline will use some of its 47 new longer-range single-aisle aircraft it has on order from Airbus, which are slated to enter service in 2024.
"Of course, the UK would be a good market [for the XLR], and we’ve actually started the design of the potential network for XLRs and secured some designations to countries where we currently don’t fly to," she added.
It comes after the carrier announced plans to launch a new route from Luton to Amman in December.
