Wizz Air has partnered with a handful of not-for-profit organisations to provide 10,000 free tickets to the UK for Ukrainian refugees fleeing Russia’s ongoing invasion
The fares are available on flights to airports across the UK from Romania, Slovakia, Poland, Hungary and Bulgaria for travel between 14 May and 15 June.
The new partnership, which launches this weekend, was created to support the government’s Homes for Ukraine scheme and follows the airline’s previous offer of 100,000 free tickets in March and April.
To mark the launch, representatives from each organisation will gather at Luton airport on Saturday (14 May) to greet the first refugees arriving on Wizz Air flights from Krakow and Warsaw and connect them with their UK sponsors.
The airline’s free tickets are available on a total of 61 routes. They include one item of hand luggage item and one up to 32kg checked bag per person.
Jozsef Varadi, Wizz Air chief executive, said: “We are pleased that Wizz Air is able to continue to support Ukrainian refugees as part of the UK government’s Homes for Ukraine scheme. We hope that this initiative will help many Ukrainians reach a safe place in the UK soon.
“We have already seen great humanitarian efforts on the ground by our people across the network, and following our 100,000 free tickets offer to Ukrainian refugees in March and April, we wanted to continue to play our part in these efforts.”
Josie Naughton, co-founder and chief executive of Choose Love, added: “Air fares should never stand in the way of people being able to access safety. We are delighted to be partnering with The Shapiro Foundation, The Steve Morgan Foundation, USPUK and Wizz Air to support people in their journeys."
