Key staff appointments for Viceroy at Ombria Algarve launch

Viceroy at Ombria Algarve names General Manager Duarte Gonçalves da Cunha, Executive Chef Pedro Pinto and Head Sommelier Gonçalo Mendes.

The newly appointed leadership team will oversee all resort operations, including guest services, food and beverage, and property management.

 

Duarte Gonçalves da Cunha, General Manager

Duarte Gonçalves da Cunha brings extensive luxury hospitality experience to Viceroy at Ombria Algarve, aiming to make it one of Europe’s top hotels. With a career spanning Aman Resorts in Morocco, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Montenegro, and Finca Cortesin on the Costa del Sol, Duarte most recently led Discovery Hotel Management at Octant Douro. He holds degrees in Hotel Management and Strategic Marketing from Les Roches in Switzerland and has over 20 years in the industry. Duarte’s vision is to offer guests an authentic Algarve experience, guided by locals and celebrating the region's nature and culture.

 

Pedro Pinto, Executive Chef

Pedro Pinto, from Ovar, Portugal, is a prominent culinary figure with experience at prestigious establishments like AbaC Barcelona (3* Michelin), Vila Joya (2* Michelin), and Vila Vita Parc. Known for his creativity and commitment to Portuguese gastronomy, Pedro will infuse Viceroy at Ombria Algarve with innovative and seasonal dishes. He sees the resort as a fresh addition to the Algarve’s dining scene, blending nature and modern luxury.

 

Gonçalo Mendes, Head Sommelier

Gonçalo Mendes brings nearly two decades of expertise in wine tourism. Recognised with awards such as Best Wine Tourism Sommelier and Best Sommelier of the Year by APENO, Gonçalo's career highlights include earning a Michelin Star with Chef Miguel Laffan at L'AND Vineyards. His extensive knowledge and passion for wine will enhance the resort’s offerings.

 

Viceroy at Ombria Algarve, opening on October 1, 2024, will feature 141 rooms, including suites and residences, across 5.2 hectares. With six dining outlets showcasing local produce and stunning 360-degree views of the Algarve, the resort promises a unique, culturally rich experience just north of Loulé, 30 minutes from Faro airport and the coast.
