’Uzbekistan – Ancient Cities of the Silk Road’ starts in the capital, Tashkent, discovering the city’s Islamic heritage and enjoying the sights and sounds of Chorsu Bazaar, before heading to the new town where modern attractions and monuments showcase the city’s artistic flair.

Guests then travel to Khiva, home to the UNESCO-listed town of Itchan Kala, where sights include an ancient citadel, incredible madrasas and minarets, and the Duma Mosque suspended by a web of carved wooden pillars. The journey continues through the red desert of Kyzyl-Kum and on to Bukhara for a series of stunning monuments and a masterclass in making ’plov’, a traditional Uzbek rice dish.

Further along the famous traders’ route, the tour explores the domed marketplace of Compel Bazaar, the iconic Silk Road city of Samarkand, and Ak-Saray Palace, the birthplace of the legendary leader of the Timurid empire, Amir Timur.

Prices start from £2,339 per person, saving £150, and include four-star accommodation, most meals, guided tours, internal flights, and transfers, and return flights from Heathrow, with departures starting in October 2024 and available through to November 2025.

Richard Forde, Head of Trade Sales & Partnerships at Newmarket Holidays says: "Customers tell us that they want to explore more destinations that are off the usual tourist trail, so this feels like the right time to introduce Uzbekistan as an incomparable destination to our 2024-26 touring collection.”

"This tour is a well-balanced overview of an incredible destination that allows customers to get a taste of the most celebrated locations at an excellent price. It’s a fantastic option for agents to offer those customers who want to go off the beaten track. We expect it to go straight to the top of many wish-lists.”
