Birkenhead House, a luxury boutique hotel in the coastal town of Hermanus, renowned as a leading whale watching destination, has undergone a refresh.
The property showcases a vibrant yet subtle new look that is sure to enchant both new and returning guests. With a fresh coat of paint and beautiful new décor elements, Birkenhead House radiates charm and elegance.
Deputy General Manager Wayne Spencer proudly shares, "Our incredible clifftop location overlooking Walker Bay offers breathtaking views, but its iconic oceanside position means the property is exposed to nature’s elements."
While a fresh coat of paint on the exteriors and interiors is part of regular maintenance, adding new décor and design updates has revitalised the property. The Marrakesh and white tones of the exteriors have been brightened, and the interiors now feature a "worn leather" finish, adding depth and a homely feel to the hotel. The guest bathroom near the lounge area has been updated, and all rooms have received thoughtful enhancements, ensuring a comfortable and stylish stay for our guests.
The large white sofas in the lounge area now sport soft pink piping, while floral-inspired chairs framed by green cupboards highlight owner Liz Biden’s generous and colourful design signature. Around the pool, new outdoor umbrellas designed with a chic coastal pattern welcome guests into an updated space, offering the perfect spot to soak in the stunning location. The pools sparkle brightly, complemented by navy and white striped pool cushions.
The pièce de résistance of the property is the updated conservatory, featuring bold green and white stripes and tall pots with feathery ferns. These add a touch of playfulness and drama, bringing the spectacular natural surroundings indoors.
For owner Liz Biden, embellishing the existing décor of this fantastic property was a labour of love, highlighted by bold colours and new interpretations of the hotel’s exquisite location.
"We had so much fun, refreshing Birkenhead House, finding ways to create a more playful and creative space, but always reminding ourselves that the incredible views of Walker Bay are the undoubted hero when it comes to this majestic property," says Liz.
