Eight Travel Counsellors agents discover Alentejo during a wine-focused FAM trip, hosted by Visit Alentejo in partnership with Visit Portugal and TAP Air Portugal.

The journey began in Lisbon, where the group promptly set off southward to immerse themselves in the region’s rich culture and gastronomy. Their first stop featured a delightful lunch and wine tasting at Tapada dos Coelheiros, followed by a scenic drive to Estremoz, where they checked into Casa do Gadanha, their home for the next two nights.

Over the next few days, the agents explored Alentejo’s highlights, including a visit to Évora, designated European Capital of Culture for 2027, as well as the picturesque towns of Marvão, Castelo de Vide, Porto Covo, and Monsaraz. The itinerary also featured site visits to accommodations such as Casa Amarela and Torre de Palma, along with a memorable experience at the Herdade do Sobroso winery, where they checked in for the last night.

This immersive tour provided the agents with firsthand insights into the unique experiences they can offer their clients, blending cultural heritage, stunning landscapes, and world-class wine.

David Ashworth, Travel Counsellors said: “I love the authenticity of the region, the way it’s remained traditional but modern. The views are amazing, the towns are quaint and full of history, it’s easy to navigate your way around by car and the people so welcoming.

“For foodies it’s paradise, local dishes served the traditional way or tweaked and served with a modern twist but not losing focus on the local produce or values.

“And the wines and wineries are comparable to anywhere else I’ve been to, there’s so much pride in what they do and want to achieve - and not just about their own produce but the region as a whole.”

Visit Alentejo and its Alentejo Academy programme helps agents gain knowledge about this authentic region of Portugal, as well as its tourism products. For more information and registration visit academy.visitalentejo.pt
