One in five people in the UK live with a disability or health condition, government statistics in 2018 showed, as it called for the tourism industry to do more to cater for disabled people, pointing out: “There is a clear business case for ensuring that disabled people’s needs are catered to.” They weren’t wrong. That same year, Visit England alone estimated the value of the so-called "purple pound" (the spending power of disabled people) to be £15.2 billion. That’s a lot of money the UK travel and tourism sector is potentially missing out on.
In this first-of-its-kind seminar, TTG explores how agents can tap into this important sector, what more they can do to support disabled clients and hears from the destinations actively appealing to those with accessibility needs.
